Splurge vs Save

In our quest for buns and thighs like Beyonce Knowles, we're all suckers for a short cut, myself more so than anyone else.  I suffer from laziness pure and simple, sure I could go to the gym but that involves effort, so when FitFlops hit the market I was one of the ones to fork out the best part of £40 for a pair.

Fear not ladies, laziness will no longer cost us a cringeworthy amount of money for a pair of flipflops with a funny sole.  One of the pairs of shoes below costs £8, the other £45, can you spot the difference?

The top pair are the Walk Yourself Fit Sequin Post toe sandals from pricelessshoes.co.uk, currently priced at £8 in their sale, £3.50 for P&P and you will receive 8% cashback through Quidco. http://www.pricelessshoes.co.uk/en/walk-yourself-fit-sequin-toe-post-sandals-195329

The bottom pair are the FitFlop Electra in Black, which on the official FitFlop website will set you back £45 plus £3.95 P&P.

To look at, the shoes are pretty much identical to one another, the same style, shape and sole.  For a saving of £37.45, you are receiving a product which is just as effective as its more expensive counterpart and looks just as good, leaving you to find something else to spend the spare cash on!

Happy Saving!

U. R. Beautiful

For any of you living in the SW London/ Surrey area, you must take a visit to the U. R. Beautiful Spa in Kingston-Upon-Thames.
U. R. Beautiful is an Urban Retreat Spa, offering beauty, hair and medispa treatments from Darphin, Dr Murad, Mamma Mio to Guinot there is plenty to choose from.

I decided to book myself in for an hour long customised Darphin facial which costs £50.  On arrival, my lovely therapist Hazel discussed the condition of my skin with me and what issues I would like to address.  In particular, I asked for a nice extraction session to get rid of my pesky blackheads.

The rooms are really relaxing, warm and well-equipped, with heated beds and very soothing music, if you don't drift off to sleep then I'll be very surprised.

The facial didn't feel rushed at all, in fact with all the different stages of the treatment, it felt like the facial lasted a lot longer than an hour.

Added bonuses to going to U.R Beautiful are:
  • If you join their loyalty club (free of charge) you automatically receive 10% off treatments and products
  • Because the Spa is based above Boots, you will earn Boots points on any treatments or products you buy.  Equally, you can spend your Boots points on pampering yourself!
U. R Beautiful is definitely worth a visit ladies, you can view the full selection of treatments at www.ur-beautiful.com!

Prime Time

I know I've been very tardy with my blogs of late.  They've been written in my mind for weeks, I've just not gotten around to sitting down and typing them up so many apologies.  Consider my wrists well and truly slapped!

I had wanted to try a primer for a while, even though I don't wear foundation I'd read that it would even out my skin texture and minimise my pores.  Now I'm one of those girls that suffers from the curse of the T-Zone and hate the shiny patch which appears on my forehead every hour.  Historically, I would sit at my desk and reapply pressed powder every half an hour to avoid the look of some one that has been working behind the counter in a Fish and Chip shop.  So not only would I want my primer to improve the texture of my skin but also rid my of my pesky grease zone.

I've read many mixed reviews about No7's Shine Free Make-Up base but decided to give it a go.  It costs £11 for 40ml, Boots are currently running their 3 for 2 promotion across skincare so a good time to stock up if this is one of your staples.
When reading the back of the tube it claims to ‘contain Biopol which keeps the skin shine free up to 10 hours. Helps neutralise harmful bacteria and tighten pores, to minimise blemishes. Light reflective crystals disguise fine liens to create a flawless finish.'  I have to say that for me the blurb was all correct.

On application, you definitely need to let your moisturiser sink in first otherwise you won't get a nice even finish.  The base itself is a white thick cream consistency. Pat a few dots of this over your face then using your fingertips rub gently into the skin. I noticed straight away the effect, smoother skin and matified effect. After this I applied my make up as normal.

To be honest, throughout the entire day at work I didn't need to apply any face powder, so a massive 12 hours later I was still shine free and looking fresh.

The price seems reasonable for the amount of product you get in a tube. The packaging is a little bland but at the end of the day this base does its job so well, I wouldn't care if it came in an old food bag.

Ignorance IS Bliss

Every time I cross my hallway into the kitchen, I catch a glimpse of something disturbing out of the corner of my eye.  I refuse to look at it directly for fear of being faced with the truth.  I am ..........................................
..................a lazy bitch!

Yes, the ironing pile has been sat there since I got back from St Lucia two weeks ago.

Yes, the spare room resembles a Chinese laundry.

Yes, I'm on a month's detox, so not going out so much and therefore have more time on my hands.

Yes, I'm grateful that knickers don't need ironing.

I just cannot muster up the motivation to deal with "The Pile" at any point soon, so I have come up with the perfect solution.
Shut the door and pretend it's not there!  So far I have found this method to work extremely effectively and I'm beginning to wonder, when I do finally open the door, whether magical fairies would have come and done the ironing for me?

Here's hoping!

Holiday Saviours!

Hello Ladies!

Apologies for being rather slack of late, post engagement was a bit of an unexpected whirlwind and then we decided to celebrate with a two week holiday in St Lucia.

I won't irritate you all by talking about my holiday in detail but I had to tell you all about the two items which literally saved me during those two weeks.
First of all my Kindle.  Now before I bought this I was absolutely one of those "but I like holding a proper book" sceptics but I am well and truly converted.  When I go on holiday, I tend to read a book in two days so the entire bottom of my suitcase ends up being full of books.  Not only is a kindle smaller than a paperback it also weighs less so I took it with me in my hand luggage.

Unlike the screen of an ipad, if you imagine an Etch-A-Sketch, the Kindle is based on the same principal and can be read in direct sunlight.  As it is so light, you can literally hold it in one hand and there is no need to put your cocktail down to turn the pages, there are buttons on the side on the screen which can either take you to the next page or take you back a page.  Since the buttons are available on both sides of the screen, the Kindle can be read in either the left hand or the right.

I have a simple leather case for mine but I notice a lady reading hers at the side of the pool which she had in a waterproof case which I thought was a fantastic idea as there were children splashing around and if you're down on the beach, would also keep the pesky sand out!

I love my Kindle, £111 well spent in terms of value and storage!

Next on my saviour list is Charles Worthington Takeaways Hair Serum.  Most hair serums come in a big bottle with a pump, which runs the risk of serum ending up all over the inside of your suitcase.  This wonderful little 10ml tube from Charles Worthington is the perfect solution.
It only costs £1.93 and looks like a lip gloss, it's perfect for holidays or handbags.

Anyway, it's good to be back and I promise I won't leave it so long between blogs next time.

Happy Shopping!

One Elle Of A Polish

I've wanted to try this Mavala nail polish ever since they released it last year to celebrate Elle magazine's 25th Anniversary.  The polish was released as a limited edition but I was able to buy this one recently from www.lookfantastic.com at a bargain price of £3.16.

It's a deep earthy griege with a very subtle purple hue which you can only spot in natural light.  What I like about this shade is that it goes with almost anything so is an easy shade to wear on a day to day basis.

The polish was pretty easy to apply, thick and opaque, although the small 5ml bottle was a tad tricky to keep hold of.  I applied two coats and a topcoat but I have to say I had already started to spot some chipping the next day which always irritates me when I spend ages applying the polish.  It's a "must have" shade but disappointing chipping results.

Here Kitty, Kitty, Kitty

I'm off to see Katy Perry at the Hammersmith Apollo tonight, so it's apt that I post about this adorable Hello Kitty body butter I found in *cough, splutter, mutters under breath* Poundland of all places.
Initially it was the tin which drew me towards it, it's so cute and kitsch but the body butter itself is equally to die for.  If any of you remember the old Body Shop Morello Cherry lipbalm from years ago, this smells absolutely identical with just a hint of marzipan.
It goes onto the skin smoothly and soaks in quickly.  I walk around smelling similar to a battenberg cake and I love it.  An absolute bargain for £1 and you can reuse the tin afterwards!

It's only half way through the month, another two weeks until pay day and I am skint.  So the new Jeanius collection from MAC is really going to tempt me into my overdraft.

Their Jeanius collection is "a denim -inspired collection of moody blues and indigo ink, the quantum of modern cool, with four new limited life Eye Shadows, and new limited-life shades of Lipstick, Lipglass, Blush and Nail Laquer."

Items making a dent in my overdraft will be:

This gorgeous "Biker Blue" nail laquer which is a black base with hues of purple and blue

and this "Pretty Pink" lipstick which is a beautiful subtle shade

I may be poor but I'll look good!

Yum Yum Bubblegum

Another item from my Lush splurge last weekend which I only got around to trying out yesterday.  My lips have been looking a bit flakey and lacklustre recently so I thought I would give Lush's Bubblegum Lip Scrub a try.

A 25g pot of this neon pink sugary delight costs £4.75 which to be honest, I would pay for the smell of this product alone!  The moment I took the lid off, I wanted to grab a spoon and dig in.

The main ingredient is caster sugar which gives it the rough texture you need to act as the exfoliator on your lips which will work to remove all of the dead skins cells from your lips. The other main ingredient included is Jojoba Oil can be used on all skin types but is especially used as a moisturising ingredient for dry, flaky skin.

As this lip scrub is quite thick in consistency and because it is to be used on your lips you don't actually need to be using too much at a time. You rub it in in small circles to remove all of the dead skin cells and any other impurities from your lips.

At this point it turned into an "eating a doughnut without licking your lips" type scenario,  the smell of this lip scrub is heaven and just takes you back to the days of buying Hubba Bubbas from the corner shop!
Once you have worked your way across your lips (and managed not to lick it all off), using some slightly damp cotton wool, you gently remove the left over product.

After using this product my lips felt soft and smooth all the way along, what I noticed was no sign of any hard or loose skin but soft smooth lips which had a zinging sensation and I think gave me a slight Angelina Jolie pout (Hi Brad)!

I love this little wonder product and it will definitely be added into my weekly skincare regime, a single girl must make sure she has kissable lips at all times after all!

Drink Anyone?

I had a bit of a Lush splurge on Sunday and had heard lots about their Skin Drink moisturiser, so I decided to give it a try since my skin has been looking a bit dull of late (probably due to not enough water and too much vino)!

£10.95 buys you a 45g tub, which isn't the best price in the world and I did think twice when I picked it up in the store but as I found out, a little really does go a long way.

It includes Evening Primrose Oil which is already widely recognised as having properties that assist with the regeneration of skin and improve its texture. The other ingredients also make you think immediately of good moisturising properties, and the rose petal infusion is a soothing addition.

Since I'm always in a rush in the mornings, I always like to try out new products in the evening when I don't run the risk of any skincare disasters.
Upon application, any tightness in my skin was instantly relieved and my skin instantly felt refreshed.  The texture is quite greasy and it took a while for my skin to absorb, that being said this moisturiser is intended for dry skin whereas my skin is combination.

I left this on my skin overnight and when I woke up this morning I was more than impressed with the results.  My skin feels really smooth and soft which means my foundation glided on evenly this morning.

This product really is a miracle worker and gives noticeable results overnight.  I will be adding this to my staple skincare regime but will be using this as an overnight treatment as opposed to a daytime moisturiser as I think if I applied any foundation over it, it would slip right off.  As an added zing to tired, tight skin you could might want to keep it in the fridge for a nice cooling sensation on application.

Definitely treat your skin to a drink of this ladies!

Oh My Gok!

I'm so happy to hear the news that dear Auntie Gok will be designing his first clothing range exclusively for Sainsbury's Tu label.
I have long admired his philosophy that women should feel confident and sexy, whatever their size or shape.

Plus Gok realises that whatever God giveth you in one department, he hath taketh away from you in another.

So you may have a fantastic chest but you may have bingo wings, you may have a flat stomach but then you may have thunder thighs, you may have the body of a supermodel but you may have stretchmarks.  Whatever you have, learn how to highlight your assets and shove the little imperfections into the background.

Unfortunately we have to wait until Autumn for his first collection to hit the shops and let's hope that Sainsbury's launch Tu online before then!

Blue My Mind

I have been eager to try out Rimmel's 60 seconds polish, could a nail varnish really answer all my prayers and dry that quickly?!

The 60 seconds range is priced at £3.49, given the vibrant shades of these polishes I decided to go for shade 810 "Blue My Mind."
I made sure to use a base coat, as I didn't want to risk staining my nails which tends to happen with these darker shades.

According to the packaging, the brush is a "1 stroke Xpress brush", which gives "1 sec application". I have to be honest, they're correct.  As the brush is wider, it was so much easier to get an even line across the top of the cuticle and as you glide the brush down the nail, it widens out to give even courage.

I applied the blue 60 seconds polish, and waited a minute before apprehensively testing to see if it was dry. I was sure I would so my usual trick of  leaving a big fingerprint impression by testing it so soon but I was wrong, my nail was dry to the touch.

They claim only one coat is needed, one would perhaps have been enough but I like to make sure I get a good depth of colour so added a second.
The shade is gorgeous, it's a really vibrant midnight blue with a purple hue and the finish is long lasting.

A fantastic nail polish, great price, gorgeous shades in the range and your nails will be dry before you can say "big fat gypsy wedding!"

Fondant Fancy?

I've been searching for a decent nude lipgloss for ages, so whilst browsing in Boots at lunchtime I thought I'd give one from their Natural Collection range a try.

At £1.99 you really can't go wrong in my opinion, I tried "Fondant" which looked like a good pinky neutral shade to try.
On application, this lipgloss glides on and is not sticky at all, which is a personal "hate" of mine and the consistency is thick enough so that shade on your lips is the same as it looks in the tube.
Yes OK, the packaging is pretty basic but it's what's inside the tube that counts.

Good quality for the price, I think this is a fantastic nude lipgloss.

Purchase of The Week!

My Purchase of The Week has to be my new bachelorette pad!

I'm so excited as I've never had my "own" place before.  It's two bedrooms (which means I can house my shoes, handbags, clothes and make-up in the spare room), a garden (so I can have the girls round for BBQ and Pimms in the Summer) and a garage (so I can throw all my junk in there).

I have to say as much as I'm really pleased that I'll finally be on the property ladder, it's very scary to think that money-wise it is all down to me.  I'm worried won't have as much disposable income to spend on my favourite things so I'm going to have to be overly nice to the boss and hope for a nice pay rise this year!

As you all know, I've not had the best year so far (two deaths and a break up) so I really feel that this is a turn around point for me and I'm so glad you'll all be there to share with me, my journey into property owning and singledom!

Happy V Day

Happy Valentine's Day to one and all.

I will be spending the evening doing what I love best,  being with the girls in Pizza Express, drinking pink fizz and gorging on an American Hot pizza.

Ladies this Valentine's Day, whether you'll be having a candlelit dinner for two or a chinwag and a gossip with the girls, remember to love the most important person of all ........yourself!

Feeling Grey

I'm making an effort to keep my nails immaculately painted at the moment but I hate it when you have to sit there for hours, waiting for them to dry (life's too short) so I thought I would try one of the polishes from Collection 2000's Hot Looks range.
At £1.79 you really can't go wrong and I've been dying to try a grey shade for ages so I went for Wham.

The brush is thicker than I normally come across which actually made application really easy.  I painted on two coats, the polish went on really evenly and to be honest I probably could have just applied one coat.  The product dried really quickly, it was dry to the touch literally after about 5 minutes and had a lovely glossy finish so I didn't need to apply a top coat.

Wham is a grey shade with very subtle blue undertones and I will be sporting this polish often over the next few months.
